Does it look for multiple string combinations?

It just returns the top hypotheses, for however many hypotheses it found for the utterance while searching. So if it found 3 valid hypotheses, it is returning the 3 best results, which is why it’s called n-best (n because the number it is going to find isn’t known in advance).
